Nature Notes

April 3, 2019

Spring has sprung! Carpets of early ephemerals are are blooming on the hillsides. Bloodroot, Rue Anenome, and early edibles such as Trout Lily, Spring Beauty, Virginia Waterleaf, and Cut-leaved Toothwort are all popping right now, so Morel Mushrooms aren't far behind! As with collecting all native plants, don't collect from public lands, and please collect sustainably! Taking a few plants from a thick colony actually helps sustain it by giving new growth room to expand, but if you only see a small number of a plant you'd like to eat, best leave it to continue propogating.
